EOS launches R500 next-generation RWS at IDEX 2025
Canberra based Electro Optic Systems (EOS) has unveiled the R500, a next-generation Remote Weapon System (RWS) that it says introduces new capabilities in remote lethality, enhancing precision and adaptability in complex combat environments.
Launched at the International Defence Exhibition & Conference (IDEX) 2025 in Abu Dhabi, the R500 integrates AI-driven targeting, high-elevation Counter-UAS (C-UAS) capabilities, and multi-weapon adaptability to meet the evolving demands of modern warfare.
The system features a high-resolution sensor unit with advanced C-UAS capabilities, including C-UAS radar, AI-driven targeting algorithms, and elevated targeting functionality, ensuring superior situational awareness and threat detection. The STANAG Level 2 add-on armour provides enhanced protection in high-threat environments, while a digital low-latency architecture and high-performance edge AI hardware optimise fire control and command efficiency, the company says.
Building on the proven foundation of the R400, EOS says the R500 delivers increased lethality, enhanced situational awareness, and greater survivability. Engineered for armoured vehicles and tactical platforms, the system provides superior firepower, the highest stowed ammunition capacity, and greater flexibility in integrating missiles, rockets, and other modern effectors, the company adds. This makes the R500 an ideal platform for maximising operational effectiveness in high-threat environments.
Dr Andreas Schwer, CEO of EOS, said, “The modern battlefield is evolving rapidly, and armed forces need systems that keep pace with emerging threats. The R500 has been developed with direct operational insights to provide reliability, precision, and adaptability in the most challenging environments. Its introduction at IDEX 2025 reflects EOS’ ongoing commitment to equipping defence forces with solutions that enhance their effectiveness and survivability.”
The R500 features a modern user interface and is UGV-ready, integrating a new wireless control suite for seamless coordination with unmanned ground vehicles, enabling remote and autonomous operations.
EOS has sold over 2,500 RWSs globally, including more than 500 in use by the Emirati Armed Forces. Its Abu Dhabi-based technology centre has served as a regional hub since 2019, says the company.
