Third KF-21 Boromae prototype makes maiden flight

The third prototype of South Korea’s indigenous fighter, the Korean Aerospace Industries (KAI) KF-21 Boromae, has made its maiden flight. The South Korean Defence Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) announced this third prototype would be used to expand the fighter’s flight envelope as well as undertake structural load testing.

A total of six prototypes will be built in a 2,000-sortie flight test program which includes development and integration of a South Korean Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar. The Republic of Korea Air Force (RoKAF) plans to acquire 120 KF-21s to replace its ageing fleets of F-4 and F-5 fighters. Indonesia may also acquire 50 – the Indonesia government is a 20% partner in the program.
