Expressions of Interest – Defense Innovation Unit’s Blue Manufacturing Initiative
The US Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) has announced its ‘Blue Manufacturing Marketplace’ initiative which aims to qualify advanced commercial manufacturers and enable them to rapidly connect with cutting-edge technology companies.
Through these relationships, it says, Blue Manufacturing seeks to develop and integrate commercial technology with a trusted manufacturing innovation base in advanced areas like 3D printing, automation, and high-rate production to scale production quickly, securely, and globally.
This opportunity allows manufacturing businesses to join the program and be pre-vetted for their Blue Manufacturing Marketplace and to be a part of a group of trusted advanced manufacturing companies capable of scaling defence technology production, the DIU explains.
Vendors seeking to be accepted into the Blue Manufacturing marketplace will have the opportunity to submit their solutions through an assessment process and leveraging DIU’s new multi-stakeholder partnership authority (10 USC § 4127(e)). The initial Blue Manufacturing Marketplace cohort assessment will identify trusted manufacturing partners in six categories for Department needs, including:
- Parts Production: Large-format metal additive
- Parts Production: Small-format metal additive
- Parts Production: Composite or ceramic additive
- Parts Production: Automated metal machining and forming
- Automated and advanced post-processing
- 3D-printed tooling
