Codan to build radio mesh network for Sypaq under DEF129 program
Adelaide-based Codan Communications will deliver the Sentry Mesh 6161 radio into the Melbourne-based Sypaq Systems CorvoX Uncrewed Aerial System (UAS) under a $15 million contract awarded by the ADF. The contract is being awarded under the aegis of project DEF129 Uncrewed Aerial Systems
In July 2024, Defence said it would invest over $100 million to increase the ADF’s arsenal of drones. The goal was to produce an indigenous drone with a stabilised camera, a range of 5km, a weight of less than 2kg and a price of less than $5,000.
One of the two drones selected was Sypaq Systems’ CorvoX. The Adelaide-based Codan Communications will add to video encoding, mesh and algorithms equipment and certification. This enhanced SUAS communication system will provide the ADF with scalable solutions and enhanced communications capabilities, says Defence.
The partnership between Codan Communications and Sypaq Systems to deliver new capabilities to the ADF is an example of Defence’s support for the future growth of the nation’s defence industry and enhancing Australia’s sovereign defence capabilities through advanced local manufacturing and innovation, says Defence.
