Exail to spotlight unmanned MCM systems at Indo Pacific 2025
French counter-mine and autonomy specialist Exail is making another pass over the target. It will showcase its advanced unmanned Mine Countermeasures (MCM) solutions at Indo Pacific 2025, reaffirming its commitment to helping Australia strengthen its maritime security, the company says.
With 99 per cent of Australia’s trade by volume moving via sea, the ability to detect, classify, identify and neutralise underwater threats quickly and safely is essential to protect its ports, trade routes and critical underwater infrastructure, it adds.
Exail says its UMIS is the world’s first fully unmanned MCM vertically integrated and optimised system, combining autonomous surface, underwater and aerial vehicles to deliver rapid, reliable and safe mine clearance, all while minimising risk to personnel.
With a strong reputation as a global MCM leader, Exail’s capability is currently operational with several navies in Asia and also with NATO’s MCM leaders in Belgium and the Netherlands. The modular system can be deployed quickly by air, land or sea to provide immediate operational effect wherever needed.
“Mine countermeasures are not a future consideration – they are a critical enabler of modern maritime security today,” said Antony Penn, Exail Chief Commercial Officer. “Our proven unmanned and rapid-response solution can integrate with local industry partners and be delivered when Australia is ready.”
Understanding the budget constraints that led to the cancellation of the RAN’s uncrewed MCM program, Project SEA1905, while also recognising a still-critical need for a modern MCM capability, Exail says it has fully committed to supporting Australia when the time is right with a cost-effective, rapid-deployment MCM solution.
“While many unmanned systems on the market claim to offer solutions, MCM is a highly specialised field. Very few can deliver effectively.
“Our presence yet again at Indo Pacific allows us to showcase our proven systems and demonstrate there is a value for money, mature solution ready today – one that supports Australia’s operational and strategic goals.”
